Sleep deprivation in college students is very common with consequences that affect their physical and mental health. Peer pressure from friends or roommates and the demands of school and jobs leave many teens and college students chronically sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) while mental health were assessed using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale 21 (DASS-21). The findings indicate that majority students have a high level of sleep deprivation, mild level of depression, moderate level of anxiety, and normal level of stress. Most students probably know that depriving themselves from sleep is bad, but nonetheless they're willing to sacrifice sleep and as a consequence, health, telling themselves it's just for a short time and they can soon start sleeping 12-hours a day once the semester draws to a close. Sleep should be high up on a student's priority list.
